I had hoped to keep a running list of all my endeavors with needle, thread, and yarn; however, I just forget.

Today I am planning/working on a peacock quilt. The idea has been prancing around in my mind in full bloom but never with the fabric and method decided. I have taken the first tangible step by roughly drawing the body and head onto my fabric. Now to decide-- how big should the quilt be? Shall I reverse appliqué or thread paint or both?

All this to say I went down another avenue today but it was not a diversion. I think I have accomplished something that will help me to focus in my creative mediums. It was strange--I anticipated it...knew it would happen. Yet when I went to poplar Bluff to curl her hair one last time, seeing her lying on the table sleeping, but not, it made no sense. 98years old but sudden. She was always and then she was not.

I went to my flower garden and brought in a resin statue, an Angel with her little Cherub, my Dad had given to me many years ago. She held a lantern which has rusted away, so replaced it with a colorful sewing machine ornament and placed it in a prominent spot in my sewing room. The Angel is now my Mother, my muse, my encouragement.

Mom was an accomplished seamstress among many other talents and abilities, I did not sit at her feet nearly enough as child to learn the finer art of sewing and tailoring garments but we spent many hours together making quilts. She passed the enjoyment and love of sewing to me along with the basic knowledge that if I wanted something, I could make it. The statue is from my Dad and the essence is from my Mom. I have a long story about a Peace Rose that I won't get into right now. Suffice to say I had a beautiful rose bush that produced a dozen dinner plate size roses each season. It did not survive one winter and I mourned. When I planted it..it was the LORD's rose bush, His Peace. I finally found another bush, planted it, and hoped it would survive. It produces average size roses every season but this last fall suddenly this beauty appeared. I pray it is significant of GOD's Peace flourishing. I started this little quilt in 2006! Another reminder that I have improved a little in piecing over the years. That is just fine, it is finished. Last week it was in the "what the the heck is this?" box. Now it is getting its picture taken, posted on the world wide web and meeting Chiffon's approval. I finally took the time to put a solid white quilt sandwich on my machine and just play. I spent about 12 hours stitching random designs to practice and get familiar with my machine. I started to call the quilt.."My Way" because, well; mistakes, I made a few. After I put the binding on and took few steps back I was pleased with the result. I think Chiffon is as well. She rolled and scratched, picked out her spot on a large feather motif and went to sleep. I call that a success, because after all that is why I make quilts. September 24, 2017

I boldly proclaimed, "I would never be interested in doing that!". A very few years later my daughter took me to a quilt shop in Liberty Missouri where I bought, "Just a few fat quarters of wool.". I made a couple of pincushions and that was enough. I recently was looking for a pattern for a toy for my granddaughter and ran across an Etsy shop..gingermelon. She had the cutest felt doll and animal patterns........
The wool adventure began again. I later found the pattern for "sheep in the sunflowers" on Etsy as well, at cheswick company. Needles(s) to say I was interested and now I am looking at penny rugs in a whole new way. However, I should have seen this coming; I said I would never be interested in quilting, several fat quarters ago.LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-86901563907453795682015-09-28T15:58:00.001-05:002015-09-28T16:00:17.093-05:00Quick Quilts!!!

Normally I do not buy quilt kits or panels, however I enjoyed constructing these quilts from kits featuring beautiful panels. First, "Greeting the Moon" is stunning and artistic. I love the asymmetry and romance of the panel and general feel of the quilt. It was a must for me as it stirred my spirit.

The next two quilts are Christmas fare. "Sleigh Ride" conveys the Victorian era with a sense they are out for neighborly visits after church, in the snow. One can almost hear the sleigh bells along with the gaiety and excitement in their voices.

The bottom quilt is one of my favorites because of the beautiful Cardinals, my favorite bird, being St. Louis born. I have heard when you see a cardinal in your yard it is a visit from heaven, for me this true. My dad, the ultimate Cardinal fan, watches the games from a heavenly bird's eye view but I am quite sure he has his ear tuned to KMOX radio. There is a little quip that goes... Little boy cardinal to father..."Dad, what's a losing season?" Dad wisely replies," I don't know, son, we're cardinals." This quit is a big hit with me.

The quilts were fairly quick to piece and the two Christmas quilts had similar construction with the panel borders and square in a square technique. The Cardinal Rule also has mitered corners..very effective. All kits are available at my favorite quilt shop, stitch-n-frame.net Perhaps one of these quilts will evoke fond memories and emotions for you.LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-18845715383637625842015-09-12T18:04:00.001-05:002015-09-12T18:04:40.302-05:00Christmas in July Updated....

I have the intention of making 4 Oriental inspired quilts...this is number 2. I enjoy the beauty of the panel and the simplicity of design. Normally a panel would not interest me but these are exquisite. the original pattern has a mistake therefore check the Red Rooster Fabric site for the corrected pattern. The panel measurements are stated incorrectly so all the measurements are off but the yardage is correct. I measured my panel and just proceeded with that measurement. The construction is very easy, mostly narrow borders (5). The sewing took two enjoyable days.
I believe that pattern for his quilt is sometimes called 1000 Pyramids. I began this quilt 12 plus years ago. I cut triangles from dresses, pillows, and fabric and put them in a plastic bag. Occasionally I would sew a few together and and toss them back. Time passed and I completely forgot about this little endeavor.

A few months ago while cleaning my sewing room (please refer to my previous post about my motto) my motto I found the "long forgotten". There are a few, so I chose one to finish. O my Lord were these pieces crooked. Those bias edges were mostly skewed but I persevered. I had to add new triangles and once again I was reminded of my husband, our marriage, and our family. Fabric from clothing, home decorator items, saved and new fabrics prompted me to finish this quilt as a gift for him. Our family is a colorful patchwork some of us are a little wrinkles and maybe a little out of shape:)but always able to fit together to make a whole. Three sides certainly reminds of the Holy Trinity and the three sided covenant of Richard, Rebecca and Jesus. I am a blessed wife and mother because my husband is a Godly father, a man who is an example to model. He doesn't acknowledge his traits but every one who knows him...sees the hand of God our Father.

The quilt is not square, it has flaws and wrinkles but the borders are on, it is quilted and bound for my man whom I love and admire for 10,000 Reasons.

A few of my project this past month! Sometimes I feel as though I NEVER get in my sewing room, then I look around and well maybe I have been in there some lately! The dust on the furniture and the un-mopped floors can attest to the truth...I sew when I get the chance. The top picture is part of my daughter and son in law's anniversary gift. It is so hard to believe it has been 5 years since they were married. march+094.jpg
The middle picture has a story...Several years ago my sister bought a sewing/ embroidery machine. It was her first machine and she was really intimidated and would call me in a panic. I explained the "buyer's remorse" and she would get passed that and enjoy sewing before long. I saw a little card with the above design and sent it to her. Since that time I have been planning to make a pillow with this because I need a constant reminder!

The four pillows were made using a jelly roll someone gave to me. A fun little project!LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-1833927830352255612014-01-28T19:38:00.002-06:002014-01-28T19:38:09.293-06:00Wrestling with T Shirts

This is my second ever T Shirt quilt. I made it as a Christmas surprise for my sweet son in law. I acquired these t shirts over the years from our two oldest grandsons' high school wrestling days. I wasn't exactly sure who each shirt belonged to and then I had an epiphany…the quilt should be for the father he…after all encouraged them both, worked with them both, adapted the workshop to a gym for them to practice, and he attended all the meets. I truly believe this was the best idea. My grandson, Tanner, (the younger of the two) earned the Missouri State Wrestling First Place Title 2012 and I asked him…What move did he employ to win the match? Hence the name of this awesome memento….Over & Under, Hip Toss in Overtime.

Tanner went on to wrestle at Mizzou….His quilt..The Eye of the Tiger…….

WEAVING!!!!!
Baby blankets,
Scarves,
Curtains,
Dish towels.....
What else. I love it! For years I have knitted a few items each year. I have collected yarn, given yarn away, looked at yarn, longed for yarn, knowing I may not ever do anything with it...until now!

Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom is perfect for me. It isn't so complicated I cannot get started, there are a multitude of designs achievable on this handy loom, it takes up a small amount of space and I can use the yarn and fabric I already have and I can use it quickly. I am excited...can you tell. These are all yarns I have had on hand and I am thrilled to see them work up nicely into a useable item. Did you also catch that I said fabric? Yes FABRIC! and I have some fabric on hand too. I can't wait to see what I will weave next. Till then...tootles.LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-2837249203583109132013-06-04T05:29:00.000-05:002013-06-04T05:29:09.888-05:00WildFlowers
This is what has been making my heart glad each morning. Simple things. I planted this little circle of wildflowers late October. The end of March brought a few delicate little flowers. I was enchanted! As you can see, by the end of April the circle was brimming over with flowers of all variety. I was enthralled! The bees and hummingbirds love my little circle of color and therefore so do I. Each morning when I sip my coffee I go outside and look at the new flowers that have opened over night and I am made glad. God is so artistic and I am thankful He has allowed me to have this little garden of delight.LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-61086270591019814282013-04-17T14:41:00.000-05:002013-04-17T14:43:54.260-05:00Spiral Bound Garden!!!!Here it is again!!!! Hi peeps! This beautiful sweet quilt will be at the First Presbyterian Church Kindergarten Art Auction. It quilted out very nicely I think. The children colored the squares and I had the honor and privilege of designing and finishing the quilt. I am excited , the children did awesome work and I hope the lucky person who is the top bidder will be thrilled with this work of art.LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-74904372961660158762013-02-28T13:30:00.002-06:002013-02-28T13:30:39.438-06:00

I shared in the beauty of GOD's created world today. Yes, I live here everyday but I often miss the little things He has for me. A few weeks ago I missed an opportunity to which I had genuinely looked forward, then there was regret. I allowed something I live with everyday to block my view. Today, as I walked the same road I travel everyday I saw this view. The same trees I see day after day season after season but today I noticed their beauty. He keeps urging me nudging me to "Taste and see that the LORD is good and His mercy endures forever". I will stumble and fall, I will let stuff get in the way, and I will regret but morning by morning new mercies I see if only I will look.
LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-16985301157570363482013-01-27T11:33:00.000-06:002013-01-27T11:33:00.094-06:00Intersections

I chose that name because, while I was making the top several more tops were dancing in my head. I was thinking about the next one and the next one. I began focusing on this one and praying, thinking, smiling, about the little fella who will be here in a few days, OMG!! No really those are his initials. I thought about the intersection of heaven and earth, mom and dad, couple and family. God blesses with this little life and there are sooooo many paths to be taken but as long as the paths all intersect at the cross, the patchwork, mosaic, pixels of life paint a beautiful picture. This little quilt is for a little miracle boy. He was born January 15 to friend who thought she couldn't have a baby...GOD knew better. I finished the quilt on the day he arrived. I used Retro Geo fabric line, disappearing nine patch pattern and free hand machine quilting. I hope they enjoy!
LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-8444006228708021332013-01-07T22:38:00.000-06:002013-01-07T22:38:57.553-06:00

It is difficult to be relieved all of the CHRISTmas decorations are taken down and put away for another year. Yes, I am glad I do not still have this task hanging over me, but the hang over I have is just as heavy. The house is quiet, the children and grandchildren have all returned to their homes. Just a few short days ago they were all here. The evidence scattered all through the house with toys, cooking, and conversations, now they are scattered across the country.

I love the warm glow of the CHRISTmas lights in the house, Mickey, Minnie, and Snoopy standing guard outside. The nativity on the piano, stockings over the mantle, and the mistletoe at the front door. The family trickled in, games were played, and watched, meals shared, a warm fire in the fireplace, bonfires outside, and gifts exchanged. Then two by two they went home.

What a treasure to gather together. The house is empty, but our hearts are full and nourished until next time we come together. We are a blessed family, God has truly placed His loving hand upon us, and I am thankful.
I was reading a book and briefly read about an idea/concept to write down the goals you want to accomplish tomorrow. I have always had trouble with goal planning. In my life, I had goals for the day or the week but never a five or ten year plan, so I felt like a failure immediately when people discussed goals. Then this book I am reading touched on a plan or incentive given to Charles Schwab to write out 6 goals you want to accomplish tomorrow in order of importance. Heck I can do that!!! I'm in!! I am capable of this goal setting exercise. So here goes:

1. Read my Bible

2. Walk 4 Miles

3. Yoga

4. 1 load of laundry ----washed, dried, folded, and put away

5. Go to Jackson for Christmas gift and dinner shopping.

6. Finish cleaning the living room and foyer

7. Assemble the CHRISTmas tree

I chose 7 because often in the Bible God chose the #7.....I will too...I will be blessed.
I will let you know how I did on my list and enter a new list tomorrow evening.

Sleep well my invisible friends.LiteMotifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05494037666453094097noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2318007441103936374.post-69848845451090827322012-12-02T16:05:00.000-06:002012-12-02T16:08:41.404-06:00CHRISTmas cleaningWhen you are a mother...the things you do when the children are little can come back and kick you later. I'm talking about cleaning of course, everything else I did perfectly:)

When I was a child, Christmas and Easter were "spring cleaning" times. Our house was always clean, picked up and tidy but twice a year we had to clean EVERY.THING..Walls, ceilings, base boards, windows. Now in and of itself this isn't a bad thing but remember the house was already clean!! and we had to do all this work before the Christmas tree or the Easter baskets could come down from the attic. When you are 6, this is really a torturous time.

Fast forward to my own little ones....no the house wasn't always clean, the dishes, laundry and bathrooms were kept up and the trash taken out. I always said I accomplished just enough to keep the Health Department from condemning. If you don't remember...look at the top of this blog, we had eight children, six of which were 2 years apart and a Daddy who kept everything he has ever owned (almost). My aunt used to say..."I mop my floor every day! Some days with kool-aid, some days with milk..." Totally understood that one!

Suddenly I saw the wisdom in my mother's iron resolve......I could get these little sweeties to help clean the house!! Genius!! So Christmas and Easter cleaning became a bi-yearly event. Top to bottom, inside and out, every cabinet, drawer, and toy chest cleaned, scrubbed, and de-cluttered...except Dad's stuff, it wasn't going anywhere. He would wait until Christmas Eve and take the tools out of the house and put away his mail and magazines, but hey, he did have a real job;)

Let's fast forward again..present day. The kids are all grown and the house is a bigger mess. Well the house is bigger and I am older. I would rather do other things than clean, so I do. Still twice a year I wash windows and de-clutter (except for Dad's stuff). I have to thoroughly clean so I can decorate. What kind of mother would make the kids clean their room and not clean her's? I should have thought of that all those years ago because they haven't forgotten. They will ask me if I have the tree up yet which is code for: Is the house clean so you can decorate? So I cleaned my sewing room...took two days, and it is still full and not organized well but here it is...I went through every.thing. I can find things I need again, that is nice. It will take a few more days to finish the house and then I can decorate but my self respect will be intact. When the children travel home for Christmas they can look about with the calm confidence that all is right with the world, Mom washed the windows, cleaned her sewing room, and yep...there it is Dad's stuff, not going anywhere.

I resist change. I heard through the grapevine, Webshots is changing. I decided to download all of my pictures to my computer and I thought it was interesting. A short time ago I was uploading these pictures and now in reverse, I down load. Naturally I thought about the ups and downs in life, and there are many. I chose to put these two little wall hanging here to begin my transition. Both are McKenna Ryan designs and were very enjoyable to make. I felt they were manageable. I like the natural and organic designs, they have a calming effect in an ever changing world.

There is so much to digest in the normal course of a day, whether it is world affairs or just the affairs of a small nuclear family. The dynamic is always shifting. One thing is constant, My God, my LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit, always present, always bringing hope, always in control. He makes my life enJOYable, and manageABLE, He has a calming effect. I upload myself and I download His Glory. I feel renewed, refreshed and revived..quickened. In this instance a change is much appreciated and much needed.....A change will do you good.

As far as Webshots is concerned, I had the opportunity to look over quilts of my past. I was reminded for whom I made them and why. I enjoyed the fabric choices and the quilting in most, I saw improvements I have made and some techniques that still need work. I was inspired and reminded, a change for the better.
